the creation of victorknowseconomics

Just putting it out there... VG isn't responsible for this blog.

Today's little dandy economic whatnow: China's currency

Is it the yuan, or the renminbi? While much time and many resources have gone towards deciding whether China's currency is undervalued, perhaps more effort should go into determining the correct name for said currency.

The People (we use a capital P because it's China) refer to it as the renminbi, or if you like, RMB. Experts like Paul Crompton however repeatedly call the currency 'the yuan'. So which is it? On the one hand, you'd think the good citizens of the real Land of the Rising Sun would know what their currency is called, but on the other hand, we all know that Paul Crompton has md ekonomst skillz.

What's the answer?

VG knows.

Do you?
